The reason we fell in love with Tiptree’s jam is the high fruit content. Their conserves trap the goodness and full-flavour of fruit in every jar. Quince Jam is prepared with 70% fruit, all of which is grown on the Tiptree farm. Spread this love over freshly baked bread and hot buttered toast; or add a few spoons to the side of cheeseboard. Alternatively, as quince is good for tenderising meat, this makes an excellent sweetener in a tagine. The Wilkin family started fruit farming in the Essex village of Tiptree in 1865. To prevent the produce from spoiling on long journeys, they started turning it into jam in 1885. Wilkin & Sons Limited began to expand from just making ‘conserve’ using homegrown fruit, to also crafting ‘preserve’ using imported fruit. Now a Royal Warrant holder supplying preserves, puddings and tea to The Queen, Wilkin & Sons and the Tiptree jams created at their Trewlands factory are world famous. Keenly aware of the impact of the climate emergency, Tiptree has also become a market leader environmentally, reducing their chemical use by 80% and plastic in their packaging, planting thousands of non-fruit trees and hedgerows, and even becoming a Demonstration Farm for LEAF (Linking Environment and Farming).
