The Concepts x New Balance 992 “Low Hanging Fruit” is a November 2021 collaboration between the Boston based sneaker boutique and sneaker brand on a colorway of the lifestyle shoe inspired by a pioneering fruit seller. The “Low Hanging Fruit” looks to Frieda Rapoport Caplan, the founder of Frieda’s, Inc. a wholesale produce distributor that helped introduce the kiwi fruit to an audience outside of its country of origin, China, among other notable accomplishments. Colored and styled according to its nickname, the “Low Hanging Fruit” has a brown suede upper reminiscent of a kiwi’s fuzzy skin. Hits of lime accent the reflective “N” on the sides and the “Concepts” branding window on the tongue and heel. Additional lime accenting inspired by the inside of a kiwi can be found on the heel of the white midsole. The shoe’s strawberry-printed insole is a shout out to the kiwi-strawberry flavored drinks that became popular in the 1990s, specifically ‘96, the year Concepts first opened its doors. Each pair comes housed in a special box design by Concepts. Release date: November 20, 2021
