Only 6,240 bottles were made of this Blanc de Blancs Rare Vintage 2010 and it represents the greatest expression ever created by Champagne Barons de Rothschild. It's an exquisite gift for anyone who enjoys the finer things in life, especially in a stylishly designed grey gift box containing three bottles. 2010 was a great year for Chardonnay in Champagne, so the Rothschild family gave their Blanc de Blancs the superstar treatment. Crafted using Chardonnay exclusively from Grand Cru sites in Avize, Cramant, Mesnil-sur-Oger and Oger; it’s aged on the lees for at least eight years (twice the duration for the standard Blanc de Blancs) and a further year after disgorgement. Nutty, spicy and broad, Champagne Barons de Rothschild Blanc de Blancs Rare Vintage 2010 is a wine in perfect harmony. Discover the illusion of chalk, marzipan, toasted hazelnuts, tonka beans, French apricot pastries, nutmeg, creamy mocha, smoked sea salt and spices in ever sip. This is simply sensational, especially if served with caviar, freshly shucked oysters, roast chicken, morel mushrooms or, if you’re feeling cheekily decadent, fish and chips. Like most of us, the Rothschild family adore Champagne. So much so, that they used to create their own special cuvées using wines from Henriot and Ruinart. Inspired by these wines, in 2007 they built their very own Champagne house on the prestigious Boulevard Lundy in Reims. “The wines are very impressive… The house style shows resemblance to the wines from Henriot and Taittinger,” according to the highly respected Champagne expert Richard Juhlin. But what more would you expect from the family that gave the world Château Lafite Rothschild and Château Mouton Rothschild? The French side of the Rothschild dynasty is legendary in the wine world. In 1853 Nathaniel de Rothschild created Château Mouton Rothschild, and fifteen years later his uncle James Mayer de Rothschild acquired Château Lafite Rothschild. The former is the most flamboyant of Bordeaux’s First Growths and part of the Primum Familiae Vini – an association of the world’s finest family-owned wineries that include the likes of Antinori, Vega Sicilia, Tenuta San Guido of Sassicaia fame, Egon Müller, Pol Roger, the Symington Family Port house and many more. Neighbouring Château Lafite Rothschild has also become one of the most famous and sought-after wines in the entire world. Esteemed wine critic Neal Martin describes it as the “quintessential wine of elegance”, and it’s widely regarded as the most consistent of the First Growths. In 1962 the Lafite branch of the Rothschild family took the “Lafite Spirit” that they’d nurtured on the great terroir of Pauillac and began to expand their empire. Starting in Bordeaux they procured nearby neighbour Château Duhart-Milon, then Château Rieussec in Sauternes and Pomerol’s Château l’Evangile. They then branched out into South America with Viña Los Vascos in Chile and Bodegas Caro in Argentina, then further afield in France with Languedoc’s Domaines d’Aussières and even into northeast China with a new project called Long Dai. The three Rothschild Barons came together in 2007 to create Champagne Barons de Rothschild. All these ventures work to the same exacting standards as the legendary First Growths, befitting of wine’s most iconic family.
